Gem Tyler is a master facialist and medical aesthetician with nearly two decades of experience. She founded GEMSKIN and the GS Method™ — with a strong reputation for ethics in mind and a simple belief: No two faces are exactly alike; therefore, no two treatments are exactly alike. Although she is trained in the most advanced aesthetic treatments and procedures, this basic principle has guided her to create a signature experience for every client—one that unites modern technologies with traditional approaches and incorporates a whole body + whole life perspective. These principles are what motivated her to create her own style of facial therapy, the GS Method. The GS Method custom treatment protocols are based on the professional technique of stacking facial modalities and advanced topical skincare formulations to drive glow-boosting actives deeper into the skin. The rituals transform skin from within to resolve concerns like fine lines, dark spots and acne below the surface. Gem has an eye for what makes every client agelessly beautiful, and her bespoke treatments cater to each client’s unique needs.
Gem’s philosophy is that no matter your age or gender, clean skin is the foundation of beautiful skin. That’s why all her services begin with a triple cleanse and extractions. While it may be time-consuming, properly prepping the skin is the best practice that makes everything else that comes after more effective—from in-studio treatments to at-home skincare products.
Gem believes that skin care is health care. Our skin health is important — and it affects our mental, physical, and emotional well-being just like overall health and wellness. As someone who deals with facial scarring suffered from a car accident, struggled with acne, and subsequent mental and emotional pain that skin issues can cause, Gem strives to be the professional, educated, and passionate skin expert her patients deserve. With over 18 years of experience, beginning on the east coast of Canada, Gem believes that the key to beautiful skin is a long term approach that incorporates a seasonal regimen and a healthy lifestyle rather than short term quick fixes, to keep skin healthy and glowing in any climate or condition.
Her advanced facial practice includes her lauded signature treatments — a mixture of the most innovative technologies and timeless techniques, many of which she learned back in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The results are undeniable and her method is never too aggressive. LED Light Therapy, Ultrasound, Cryotherapy, Microcurrent, Radio Frequency, Dermal Infusion, Oxygen Therapy, and Manipulation of the Facial Muscles through Vibration Therapy are incorporated into her customized treatments that are based on the condition of the skin, rather than a type. With a treatment menu that offers everything from Deep Pore Cleansing to Microneedling and more, it’s clear that the GEMSKIN experience is about lasting results that go further than what you see in the mirror. Gem truly believes that beauty is beyond skin deep... and she is a firm believer that whether you’re a man or woman, caring for skin is not one size fits all. A technique or routine that works for one person may not work well for another’s skin. Gem’s customized, sometimes “less-is-more” approach begins with an intimate analysis of skin composition, lifestyle and treatment goals. Gem will then develop a treatment plan centered on both leading-edge, non-invasive procedures and time-honoured techniques that often get overlooked in today’s future-obsessed climate. Balance and a respect for the traditions of skincare are essential to Gem’s approach.
Gem has worked in some of the top spas and clinics in Canada, trained and taught medical aesthetic education at an accredited institution, and trained under top cosmetic physicians and dermatologists, prior to opening her first practice in Saint John, New Brunswick. In 2019, she relocated to Manitoba to build her private facial practice and launched her new business; an advanced version... GEMSKIN. Gem's approach combines holistic therapies with medical aesthetics to create an all-inclusive experience. Her teachings include the importance of internal health and external practices to achieve healthy skin. If there is one word to describe Gem it would be dedication. She has spent countless hours curating the most effective treatments by using top of the line products and innovative technologies. Gem is licensed in three Canadian provinces and is a member of the Manitoba Apprenticeship Program, Manitoba Body Art Association, the Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick, the Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia, and has been a practicing facialist and medical aesthetician for over eighteen years.
